Monochromatic Underpainting
Students are guided in painting an underpainting using one color. This color is painted in transparently, with different vaules acheived by rubbing, or lifting out paint with painting rags and q-tips.
Color Mixing
Once value structure of painting is in place, students are guided in building a color palette and mixing to match value of underpainting.
Laying in Color
Once palette is mixed, and colors are ready, students are guided in laying in color, focusing on opacity vs. tranparency, depiction of 3d space, and utilizing soft vs. hard edges.
